PPG was commissioned to evaluate the case for including an ‘Established Talent Stream’ as part of the National Innovation Visa. Our modeling showed that introducing this innovative policy would:

  • Deliver over $49 billion in patient, long-term capital over the next decade to be invested in Australian national priorities like:
    • small business innovation
    • Future Made in Australia (FMA) initiatives like reducing carbon pollution (by taking the equivalent of 2,300 cars off Australia’s roads every year)
    • increasing affordable housing supply
  • Support at least 78 small businesses every year, by injecting over $900 million annually into new venture capital investment, directly creating around 4,500 jobs every year
  • Add upwards of $2.5 billion per year to Australia’s economic growth, generating at least $690 million annually in federal tax revenues
  • Raise an additional $46 million in R&D funding every year, yielding more than $161 million annually in economy-wide benefits.

We found that these significant economic outcomes could be achieved by awarding only 300 primary visas per year, representing a negligible 0.17% of Australia’s annual migration intake.
