PPG modeled how crypto’s impact ripples through the whole U.S. economy and across all 50 states.

Key findings

  • Crypto directly creates 34,000 U.S. jobs, and for every job directly created by a crypto firm, another 6 jobs are supported in other industries, bringing the total economy-wide employment footprint flowing from crypto to 232,000 jobs across sectors as diverse as healthcare, logistics, financial services, and food services.
  • Crypto contributes $55 billion to the U.S. economy annually and supports $31 billion in worker incomes across the economy.
  • Jobs in crypto pay an average of $133,000 per year, more than double the national median wage of $64,000, and higher than the average in information and technology, manufacturing, or retail.
  • The crypto industry supports jobs in every state in the nation. California, New York, and Texas account for 60% of total crypto employment, while Heartland states like Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Indiana are home to 17,000+ jobs that are supported by crypto firms and their supply chains.
  • Crypto creates many jobs outside of Silicon Valley and directly supports American jobs like consumer service representatives, insurance agents and loan officers.

” PPG brought the rigor and independence this ground-breaking research demanded. At a critical moment for U.S. crypto leadership, they delivered an evidence-based assessment of crypto’s economic footprint that everyday Americans can rely on.”
